Advantages of Shampoo Without Sodium Laurel Sulfate

Sodium Laural Sulfate (or Ammonium laurel sulfate)  is one of the most common ingredients on beauty products. This can be true of hair care or skin care products. But most people are asking about the particular benefits of sulfate free shampoo. This may just be the first thought in consumer’s minds since that is probably the one one product we cannot do with out. We can skip the conditioner or skin cream, but going without shampoo does seem pretty grungy.

Why Are Sulfates in Beauty Products?

They are simply foaming agents or deetergents. When you wash your hair, you may expect a nice sudsy lather. That is certainly a common image presented by TV or print ads. This ingredient is, by the way, well tested as it has been around for half a century.  However use seems to be growing, and it is even showing up in some vitamins and toothpaste which are things we eat.

Does common use mean it is good for you or the environment? Well, read on to learn more.

Sulfate Allergies

A first sympton of a possible sensitivity or allergy to sulfates could be an itchy scalp or rash. You can experience this even if you have used products with this ingredient for years with no problems. Some allergies are cumulative, and since sulfates are finding their way into more and more products, it could just be affecting you now.

Some people suffer a lot more than just an annoying rash. They can actually get full blown hives or have trouble breathing. If you do have a rash, it may be a good time to try and figure out what caused it.

Sulfate Free Shampoo Bases

If you would like to wash your hair without this ingredient, look at some sulfate free shampoo bases like natural aloe. These products are also silicone free which is another ingredient that sensitive people may want to avoid.
