Why Do So Many People Want Sulfate Free Shampoo?

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is one ingredient in shampoo that has been singles out as causing hair loss. In fact, some people have just given up on shampoo and reported that hair stopped falling out and started growing in much better. Are you ready to give up on shampoo? I’m really not, so I think it is time to start looking for sulfate free shampoo and hair products.

Hair Loss Lab Tests On Sulfate Products

This is not just an urban myth either. The American College to Toxicology has reported on studies with rats using sulfite products. The subjects skin was irritated and inflamed, and yes, they lost fur. And some of these studies used a solution that was only 5% SLS. Many shampoos contain 2 to 4 times that amount!

Why Isn’t Everybody Bald Then?

Sulfate has been a shampoo ingredient for over half a century. If this causes thinning hair and baldness, why does anybody have hair? I do not have an answer, but I have some reasonable explanations. Some people may suffer from unkown allergies, while others with – for example – male pattern baldness  – may be more sensitive anyway. People use different amount of shampoo. I tend to just use a dab, but my daughter uses a handful. And people with more hair in the firsst place, may dilute the effect because less gets into their scalp.

Try a Sulfate Free Shampoo To See If It Helps You Grow More Hair

Obviously, different people have different reactions. But if you believe you are losing a lot of hair, or if your hair is thinning, would it hurt to go sulfate free for awhile?
